Songwriter Candice Warren formed Dear Buffalo in 2017 with a clear mission: to create Americana that speaks with an Australian voice. Warren, born to Indian parents and raised in Melbourne, brings a perspective to Americana that few others can- filtering Australian roots music through the lens of contemporary multicultural Australia. She has penned all songs across the bands debut album, Heartbreak Town, exploring themes of belonging, heartbreak and home. With bassist Jeanette Tamplin, guitarist Dan Freer, and drummer Harry O’Mara completing the line up, the four-piece have built a devoted following at venues around Melbourne, with appearances at festivals in Victoria. Their three part harmonies and Warren’s multi-instrumental performances (electric guitar, banjo, harmonica) create intimate moments that feel like conversations between old friends. Dear Buffalo doesn’t just play Americana- they live it, bringing the genre’s storytelling traditions to the streets and stories of contemporary Melbourne.
