Empress is a 6-piece collective which strives to create a unique and innovative platform for three-part vocal harmony,
composing and arranging songs primarily focused around the power and complexities of the female voice. This unique
ensemble presents powerful vocal harmony, supported by synth-based electronic dance grooves.
This unique combination of vocal harmony with dance grooves creates an interesting genre falling somewhere
between neo-soul, RnB and electronic pop. The lack of female fronted bands in the Melbourne electronic music scene is
substantial and we want to be proactive increating platforms and opportunities for young women in this genre.

The six musicians involved are all established young musicians in the Melbourne music scene. Being current or
graduated Students of the Victorian College of the Arts, they are all passionate about multi-disciplinary, improvised based
performance of high quality. Empress members have already made waves in the music scene alongside some
of Australia’ s luminaries such as Barney McCall, JET, Rat Child, Australian Art Orchestra, Hoi Palloi and
BUMPY.
