An important voice in Australia’s musical landscape, multi-award-winning singer-songwriterEmily Wurramara has amassed over 30-million streams, and counting, on Spotify alone. AWarnindhilyagwa woman from Groote Eylandt, Emily writes and sings in both English andAnindilyakwa language. She’s a powerful storyteller and performer, regularly sharing stageswith renowned artists including the late uncle Archie Roach, Michael Franti, Mavis Staples,Midnight Oil, Missy Higgins and Thelma Plum.


When Emily’s universally acclaimed second album NARA (meaning “nothing” inAnindilyakwa language) won Best Adult Contemporary Album at the 2024 ARIA Awards, shebecame the first Indigenous woman to take out this category since the award’s inception in1987. Previously, the Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore-directed film clip for Lordy Lordy (feat.Tasman Keith) – NARA’s third single release – was announced as the 2024 J Award winnerfor Australian Music Video of the Year.

Her debut studio album, 2018’s Milyakburra – named after her grandparents' island of birth –won the AIR Award for Best Independent Blues And Roots Album.

A six-time Queensland Music Award winner, Emily is also a passionate advocate forenvironmental issues, mental health awareness and youth suicide prevention.

Songwriting helps Emily make sense of the world. Through music, she discovered her life’spurpose. “To me, songwriting is like a ceremony, it’s sacred,” Emily shares. “It allowsconnection to happen; not to the physical, but to the soul, to the spirit.”
