Sixty floors up at JG SkyHigh, pianist Eric Wortham lets the venue dictate the sound. No set list. No preconceptions. The band tunes into the room to improvise and fit the mood for the diverse and ever-changing crowd. A crowd, he says, that always brings “a great taste in music.” A fan of Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, and Oscar Peterson, and a former music director for Seal, Wortham started piano at age six and soon discovered the instrument suited his limitless imagination. But, he said, Philly’s spirit, it’s heart, honesty, independence, and wisdom are just as crucial to his playing as the years of practice.
