Octave Inc is the creation of saxophonist Michael Slater. An accomplished jazz saxophonist from Nashville, Tennessee, Slater’s sound has been described as a “sleazy saxophone ghost…taken straight from the Clarence Clemons songbook” (Mess+Noise). Most known for his work with Shining Bird, Ernest Ellis and studio project Rain King, Slater’s alt-jazz quartet is the culmination of a variety of genres he has been part of. This band can be described as a genre-bending wall of sound, though swaying in the direction of free-form jazz. They explore various areas of music, centring on jazz fusion and pop. They bring a killer sound to the stage – its alive and enthralling music. Never sounding the same way twice, the band brings an organic, evolving soundscape to their live performances. In 2016, the band released their first recorded EP titled ‘Dancer’. Just recently, they recorded new music and are keen to bring their new sounds to the stage. ‘Flightpath of the Sky Queen’ is the second recorded EP due to be released early 2018. Octave Inc has performed in various venues around Sydney over the past couple of years – Foundry 616, Mr Falcon’s, Django Bar, Lazy Bones Lounge, Beam Festival, The Collector Hotel etc. Octave Inc is Michael Slater (saxophone), Andrew Jeon (guitar), Sagar Nagaraj (violin), Mitchell King (bass) and Riccardo Quirke (drums).
