COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS EASING UPDATE COMING!

HINTERLANDT
Featuring:
Jochen Gutsch – Composition, Trumpet, Guitar, Percussion
Simeon Johnson – Cello
Monique Mezzatesta – Violin
Lara Goodridge – Violin
Nicole Smede – Vocals
As the fourth Hinterlandt record released under the 'Art As Catharsis' label, Seven Tales showcases Jochen Gutsch’s exceptional compositional talents. A quintet of classically trained instrumentalists shape the music with masterful violins, cello, guitar, trumpet, and vocals, bringing together such diverse influences as the moving storytelling of Grand Salvo, the compositional intricacies of Robert Fripp, and the fearless curiosity of John Zorn.

“The chamber-music style of the arrangements carries some dark subject matter in the lyrics,” begins Gutsch. “Listeners are introduced to fictional characters who experience tragic moments in which they are confronted with aspects of mortality. However, as a band, we aim to deliver these tales with glimpses of black humour, to provide a window into the lives of seven humans (and a dog).
On Seven Tales, Gutsch’s compositional talents are taken to new heights through the introduction of narrative, poetic and vocal elements. The band is thrust a significant step forward by these careful additions – the storytelling is engaging, clear, and rife with curiosity.

For lovers of narrative music, meticulous compositions, and unique instrumentation, this record brings a brilliant and refreshing twist on multiple fronts – a must-listen for anyone appreciating intricacy and detail.

Album Review - ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
". . . Seven Tales does exactly what it says on the packet: each track introduces us to a character in the midst of their own rather tragic event . . . By the time you reach The Tale of Zara you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d stepped into a recitative from a Sondheim musical."

THE EXPERIENCE
Whilst some might see COVID-19 restrictions as challenging, Music in the Mountains and Gallery ONE88 see this as an opportunity to create a truly special experience. This performance will be a ‘dinner & show’ . . . so no need to grab a meal on the way as Gallery ONE88 will be serving up something tasty. You will be seated in pairs . . . so it’s guaranteed to be intimate (maybe even romantic?). You’ve got 1.5m of space around your table . . . so you won’t be knocking elbows with someone you don’t want to. Seating restrictions limit the number of attendees able to be in the gallery . . . so only a select number of people will be able to soak in the music, current art exhibition and meet the musicians in person. We have a few more surprises in store - but you will have to come along to find out what’s in store.

At the time of this announcement, tickets are limited to just 20 patrons, however, if you find that the ticket allocation for the event is exhausted, please place your name/s on the waitlist. We hope restrictions will be lifted and the capacity increased closer to the event. In the event of restrictions easing, the show could be moved downstairs to Pigeon Lane and an additional 10 seats could be opened up. Regardless of capacity, the intimacy of the event will be respected.

THE STAGE
To accommodate a Quintet during COVID restrictions, this performance will take place in between the Cafe & Gallery at Gallery ONE88. This means that you will be seated in either the Cafe OR the Gallery, and will only be able to see half the stage. Whilst this is not ideal, Music in the Mountains is striving to create the opportunity for Hinterlandt to create and perform during a time where musicians' livelihoods are at risk, and we ask that you support us in this endeavour. Worry not, however, as the intimate nature of the show will allow the musicians to personally meet all patrons attending and the atmosphere of the event will not be impacted.

THE MEAL
Victor Peralta is both a celebrated artist and an executive cook, who will be curating a dining experience like no other. Featuring 2 majestic and generous courses, meals will be delivered to your table by alternate drop (one option for you and the other option for your partner) between sets. Dessert, tea, and coffee will also be available to purchase on the night.

Entrees
- Roast Potato and Sweet Potato Soup (Gluten Free + Vegetarian); or
- Antipasto Platter: A medley of mixed cold cuts and spicey chorizo served alongside cooked peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and mixed vegetables

Mains
- Slow Cooked Short Cut Beef Ribs: Cooked slowly for 6 hours in red wine and tomato au jus base, served on a bed of creamy pontiac potato mash and garnished with salsa verde. Accompanied with a side of lightly sautéed cottage vegetables; or
- Eggplant Cannelloni (Vegan): In our vegan version of this Italian dish, protein-rich lentils take place of the ground meat. Cooked in a mixture of mushrooms, carrots, onion, herbs, and crushed tomatoes, and spinach. We went with mashed potatoes for the top layer, in place of the custard or béchamel, which takes this dish even further into the cozy meal territory.
