Emerging from the fiercely independent music community of Walyalup (Fremantle),
Western Australia, Last Quokka are a politically charged punk rock outfit known for their
explosive live energy, sharp social commentary, and unmistakable Aussie grit.
This grit, formed in a nation built on stolen land and propped up by mining wealth, nationalism,
and neoliberal decay, informs the bands sonics, which employ a punk-informed wall of sound
that draws equally on Australian pub rock tradition as well as wiry post punk quirk. Vocalist Trent
Rojahn’s lyrics often run direct but never didactic and weave urgency with absurdity, humour
and a deep sense of place. Through their DIY ethos, the band has become a mainstay of the
West Australian underground, known for turning political frustration into cathartic, high-energy
punk anthems. This is protest music with dirt under its nails and fire in its gut—unapologetically
loud, fiercely local, and uncompromisingly critical.
The band has played alongside some of the biggest seminal punk and rock acts, and has toured
extensively throughout Australia and South-East Asia. Their latest LP, Take The Fight To The
Bastards, was released March 2025 on Valve Records, and the band have just toured the
country alongside both DZ Deathrays in February and The Peep Tempel in March/April 2025.
“Imagine if King Gizz were a proper suburban punk band.” - Tim Shiel, Double J
"There’s a jerk and wired aesthetic to ‘Cue‘ that contrasts perfectly with the moments where the
ripping guitar chords and electrically charged riffs gatecrash the track. You can hear Parquet
Courts and Eddy Current Suppression Ring in the way they bring a musical nous and
intelligence to punk rock primitivism." - Doubtful Sound
"Like the threatened but still grinning marsupial, Last Quokka have surveyed our current
circumstances of climate breakdown, internet-powered mass-disinformation and right-wing
populism ...and still found reasons to laugh - and more importantly reasons to believe." - 4ZZZ
