/ DON HOPKINS /
Don Hopkins is a swamp-piano bluesman whose fingers carry half a century of Sydney's blues story and the full, barrelhouse swagger of New Orleans. Known for shows that ooze the good-time fun of a blues party night, a Don Hopkins performance will most likely get you singing along, dancing, or simply grinning ear to ear — his rolling piano and warm vocals mining a rich vein that runs from the blues and jazz of the 1920s and '30s through to the R&B, soul and gospel of the 1950s and '60s, laced with plenty of Dr. Don originals.

An influential part of Sydney's blues scene since the 1970s, Don was inducted into the Goulburn Blues Walk of Fame in 2002. A decade later, he and drummer Rob Grosser — performing as Dr Don's Double Dose — took 2nd place at the 2012 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, beating 84 other regional winners from around the globe in the solo/duo category. The duo were also named Blues Performers of the Year 2012 for NSW & ACT, and their CD Conjure Bag remains a firm favourite with Australian blues fans.

From 2002 to 2014, Don also held down the piano stool for ARIA-nominated band Jim Conway's Big Wheel, recording three studio albums and a Live at The Basement DVD. He has toured New Zealand and Austria, appeared at major festivals around Australia — including Blues on Broadbeach — and lent his piano and keys to countless Australian recordings. When he's not on the road, Don teaches blues and roots piano from his Erskineville home studio and is developing an online blues piano course.
