/ PHIL DAVIDSON /
Blue Mountains singer-songwriter Phil Davidson was discovered by ABC 702 Drive host Richard Glover, whose on-air play of Phil's song Belfast Boy struck such a chord with listeners that it landed him a deal with ABC/Universal Music and launched a full-time music career. Not bad for a former high school music teacher.
Born in Northern Ireland and raised in Australia from the age of ten, Phil is a songwriter and performer of the highest calibre — known for his sharp turn of phrase, self-effacing humour and strong Celtic melodies. He's a regular on Richard Glover's Drive show and TGIF, where he's shared the mic with some of the country's finest comedians. He's toured internationally, released numerous albums, and written for film, theatre and charity — including Love That Matters, penned for the Blue Mountains Fire Appeal, which hit number one on the Australian Country charts in 2013.
In 2019, Phil headed to Nashville to record Out of the Dark with producer Sam Hawksley at Eastside Manor Studio, joined by Linda Ronstadt's long-time pedal steel player, Dan Dugmore and Grammy-winning songwriter Bonnie Bishop. The album's songs of light, faith and humour have helped push his catalogue past a million streams on Spotify. In 2020, seven of his songs were shortlisted for the Australian Songwriters Awards, with two making the final. His most recent single, Cheviot Bay (2023), continues the run — more great songs, written with passion and honesty.
