/ MATT ROSS /
Matt Ross is a Sydney Inner West guitarist and vocalist specialising in Swampy Blues, Heritage Country, Gospel, and Southern Soul. He began his career in the Balmain Blues scene of the late '80s and early '90s with the band Beachhead, alongside Harry Brus (Renée Geyer Band) and Matt Dwyer (Bondi Cigars), and continues to perform with leading artists including Alison Penny, PJ O'Brien, Liza Ohlback, and Mitch Anderson.

Matt served as Musical Director for 2011 Country Music Starmaker winner Luke Dickens, travelling with him to Nashville and LA, and co-wrote the title track of Dickens' 2012 album Devil in the Wind. His 2014 self-titled album reached the top 10 of the Australian Blues Charts, with standout track River Song earning recognition from the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. His follow-up, Matt Lightning Ross & The Gospel Storm, charted at number 4.

A consistent force on the Sydney blues circuit, Matt Ross & the Mavericks won the Band category of the 2024 Sydney Blues Challenge, and in 2025, Matt and longtime collaborator Shane Flew took out the Solo/Duo category — earning back-to-back representation at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. He continues to play festivals, headline solo shows, and work as a sought-after sideman across Sydney.
