Bart Stenhouse:
Bart has a deep interest in jazz, world, fusion and improvisational styles of music and specialises in the guitar, bass guitar and electric mandolin, however, last year wowed audiences throughout Australia with Lulo Reinhardt, the great nephew of Django Reinhardt. His playing style blends different cultures and styles to re-define musical genres and experiment with sonic landscapes.
He has been fine-tuning his skills in guitar and bass guitar ever since, completing a Bachelor of Music in Jazz at the Queensland Conservatorium in 2005 and continuing to study privately with some of the world’s best. This has included study with North Indian Classical maestro Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya, who plays the Chaturangui (Indian Slide Guitar). Bart has also travelled to Spain and North America to study with different flamenco and jazz musicians, expanding his skill and knowledge in these music genres.
Over the years, he has also applied his diverse range of skills to work as a film score composer, music producer and studio and live sound engineer. Bart’s journey to discover different styles and approaches to music has produced critically acclaimed albums. His debut jazz fusion album ‘Blue Benares’ with percussionist Abe Stewart was recorded in the Indian city of Varanasi over nine days and was an intense musical collaboration and partnership with some of India’s finest musicians within the region. His second jazz release, entitled ‘The Best Of Times’, featured three of the best up and coming Australian Jazz musicians: David Galea on electric bass, tenor saxophonist Ben Byrne and Cleon Barraclough on keyboards, consisting of a fresh mix of Indian classically inspired Jazz with touches of flamenco harmony and spirit.
His third release ‘Five Days in Granada’ was released featuring flamenco jazz compositions and special guest talented US-based vibraphonist James Whiting. Earlier this year, Bart tour nationally with Indian tabla sensation Surojato Roy from Kolkata (Calcutta) India to sold out concerts and excited response. Bart Stenhouse an exciting and rising player on the Australian jazz and world music scene, so expect to see more of him.
Daniel Weltlinger:
Of French-Austro-Hungarian-Israeli family background, the critically acclaimed Sydney-born/Berlin-based violinist and composer-producer Daniel Weltlinger has long been renowned worldwide for his distinctive warm sound and innovations within the genres of Gypsy-swing, jazz, klezmer and experimental/free-improvised music. He is frequently in demand as a solo recording/performance artist, often in collaboration with an array of top musicians and ensembles in a variety of different formats, and is highly sought after for his technical and musical mastery on his main instrument. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, he has performed and recorded in countless major concert halls, theatres, clubs and festivals across Australia, Europe, China, Morocco, Turkey, the US and Israel, and continues to collaborate with a wide range of renowned artists and ensembles including German-Sinti guitarist and composer Lulo Reinhardt, Berlin-based Yiddish singer-actor Karsten Troyke, Polish-Australian chanteur Nadya Golski, the Australian multi-ARIA Award-winning Gyp-rock band Monsieur Camembert, the Berlin-based Turkish-Classical Ensemble Olivinn and Danish bass player Kenneth Dahl Knudsen amongst many others. He runs the independent record label Rectify Records, which produced the album ‘Koblenz’ nominated as amongst one of the best albums of 2015 in Downbeat Magazine, and co-leads a number of ensembles including Gypsy-jazz collective ‘Radio Django’ with guitarist Janko Lauenberger, Hungarian Folk-experimental trio ‘The Huns‘ with bassist/multi-instrumentalist Taylor Savvy and saxophonist André Vida, as well as two Australian based contemporary music projects ‘Zohar’s Nigun’ and ‘The Asthmatix’ with long-time associate keyboardist Daniel Pliner, which fuse Jewish music within the respective contemporary frameworks of jazz and electronica/hip-hop.
Weltlinger’s unique sound has been regularly featured on radio and television worldwide and featured most recently on the award-winning soundtrack composed by Nikko Weidemann and Mario Kamien for ‘Babylon Berlin‘ – a two-season 16-episode crime series directed by Tom Tykwer, Achim von Borries and Henk Handloegten which premiered in October 2017 on the Sky Television Network. Further film, documentary and theatre soundtrack credentials have included amongst others ‘Love My Way’ (Stephen Rae), ‘The Underpants’ (Alan John), ‘Uncle Chatzkel’ (Guy Gross), ‘Peking To Paris’ (Roger Mason), ‘The Cat That Walked By Himself’ (Peter Winkler) and ‘Meet The Waks Family’ (Neill Duncan). Weltlinger is endorsed by a number of top international companies and benefited in 2010-2017 from the support of BNP Paribas in Australia and the BNP Paribas Foundation in Paris for the development of a trilogy of recordings – ‘Souvenirs’ (2011), ‘Koblenz’ (2014) and ‘Samoreau‘ (2017) – in which he wrote original music and arrangements inspired by the music of the Belgian born Manouche guitarist-composer Django Reinhardt . He has further ongoing sponsorships with the Danish microphone manufacturer DPA microphones, US string instrument manufacturer Saga instruments as well as the Scottish acoustic amplification and electric violin manufacturer Skyinbow acoustic pickups, and is a co-composer with Australian producer-composer Bruce Maginnis for the international production music library houses Audio Network, Fable, Cavendish Music, Intervox and Focus Music.
Nigel Date:
Nigel Date is a Sydney based professional guitarist, composer and teacher. Nigel is originally from Byron Bay and has been playing guitar for over 25 years. He has performed at festivals and concerts in Australia and overseas, made TV appearances, radio shows, countless weddings, bars, cafes, corporate gigs, residencies and recording sessions. Nigel enjoys playing a wide variety of musical styles with lots of different musicians.
