After witnessing DJs at Philly clubs and block parties, Michael The Lion knew his calling. To that end, he’s spent the better part of two decades refining his style at residencies around the planet. Citing Philly as the “cradle” of disco, it remains primary in his selections, but also considers himself as a musical archaeologist, or “crate digger,” scouring the music of the past to inform the music of his present. At JG SkyHigh, he sees the DJ’s role as very different than in a club because he is curating a communal atmosphere where the guests and staff can latch on to different feelings but experience things in a collective way.
