/ MARK 'N THE BLUES/
Mark ‘N The Blues is a Sydney-based acoustic blues musician who channels the spirit and storytelling of the Deep South through authentic Delta and country blues. With resonator, cigar box, and acoustic guitars—often enhanced by slide and stomp-box rhythms—he takes audiences on a rhythmic journey through classic blues styles while infusing each performance with his own unique energy.
Originally from Sydney, Mark Bishop’s lifelong passion for blues was sparked early and deepened through mentorship with John Morris (Brother John) of The Blues Preachers, who inspired his love for artists such as Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and Manse Lipscombe. Drawing on decades of experience in rock, country, and blues bands, Mark now performs extensively as Mark ‘N The Blues in solo, duo, and trio formats, bringing acoustic fingerpicking and resonator slide techniques to life with commanding presence and heartfelt expression.
Mark has performed around Sydney’s vibrant live music scene for over 30 years and appears regularly at clubs, pubs, and festivals across New South Wales, including blues, folk, and roots events such as the Katoomba Blues and Roots Festival. Venues on his performance resume include Mr Falcon’s (Glebe), Macquarie Arms (Windsor), Cat & Fiddle (Balmain), The Bridge Hotel (Rozelle), Collector Hotel (Parramatta), and the iconic Brass Monkey in Cronulla.
Often joined by some of Sydney’s respected blues harmonica players—currently Mal Gillies—and washboard veteran David Rowlands, Mark’s show celebrates both the history and ongoing evolution of acoustic blues. His mission is to nurture and showcase the genre's origins while captivating audiences with authentic performances rooted in tradition yet alive in the present.
