This week, OUT OF ABINGDON, Brisbane jazz duo, will be dropping in for a couple of sets whilst on tour. OUT OF ABINGDON create a soulful atmosphere, a sound filtered from influences including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kenny Burrell, Bjork and Nina Simone, their understated elegance draws the listener in …. From shady riverside afternoons to balmy twilight city rooftops and late-night jam joints, Out of Abingdon continue to make their indelible mark on the jazz and blues soundscape. Their interpretations of the greats are as captivatingly unique as they are eminently respectful. Their originals are effortlessly spellbinding, following in the musical footsteps of the greats who inspire them. Hargreaves' guitar is deft, explorative, fearless; Fullerton is breathy, sultry, sultry and seductive; at other times innocent wisp.
"Smooth and soulful jazz from this talented duo. …listening to Fullerton's warm, breathy voice is like being dipped in melted dark chocolate, Hargreaves' blues guitar is mesmerising, he plays with fluid energy, his husky voice complements hers…. creating infectiously rhythmic percussion out of their own instruments, their easy enthusiasm makes this gig a soothing, sonic pleasure."
Catherine Bryer, Broadway Baby [EDINBURGH].
"Accomplished in their artistry...Tina’s ethereal vocals accompanied by Warwick’s fearless physical expression are translated into a full-bodied combination of jazz, blues and ballads."
Grace McKie, COLOSOUL magazine [Perth].
"Very cool, very smooth, reminiscent of 'Stringman Sassy' and 'Tuck and Pattie' ... these guys are fascinating!"
Steve Austin, ABC Morning Program.
