Warwick and Tina have a desire to make raw beautiful jazz that grooves and delights. Their unique sound draws influence from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Grant Green, Bjork & Nina Simone, and draws the listener in. Out of Abingdon has toured the UK and Europe and have played at festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe, Brisbane International Jazz, Noosa Jazz and the Gold Coast Folk, Gulgong Folk & Neurum Creek Music Festival.
Out of Abingdon have just returned from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a European tour having played in an 'upside down bar', performed with a group of Syrian & Iraqi refugees in Berlin, and played an intimate gig in the small town called 'Abingdon' (which isn't the town the band was named after - they're actually named after a street in Brisbane). This duo has a relaxed and effortless style which engages audiences everywhere they go. This isn't the first time Warwick and Tina have played at Hotel Blue. Early 2015 they walked into the Hotel when we were still new to live music and they left a CD for us to listen to. We told them to let us know when they were passing through again and we would see if we had something available. Well, little did they know that their album was on high rotation at the Hotel from that week onwards and when we got a little email 6 month later saying 'we don't know if you remember us but we're passing through soon . . .' well, we remembered them! Warwick and Tina played in Jan 16 for a 'Live in the Attic' in the early days of our Sunday Night series and we couldn't be more excited to have them back! This isn't just a couple of travelling musicians on a tour, this is 2 friends of the Hotel returning to their Mountains home for a weekend.
6:30 to 8:30pm; tickets $15; bar & kitchen open. Come along early to enjoy Brittanie Shipway & Matthew Dennett perform in the lounge, 4:30-6:30pm, free event. This week we are in for a real treat - the beautiful and talented Brittanie Shipway (a 2014 contestant on 'The Voice') will be performing with the Mountain's own full-time pianist Matthew Dennett. Brittanie has the biggest voice in the mountains and a quirky sense of humour which only a future Broadway talent can bring! Hotel Blue, the Mountains' own 'House of Jazz'.
