Beat master Myele Manzanza’s virtuosic drumming shines through electronic-tinged elements of jazz, hip-hop, soul and RnB as he performs songs from his recent solo album, One.
Manzanza is the son of a prodigious Congolese percussionist and formally trained in jazz performance. His fluent command of the language of rhythm is evident in his infectious, complex beats, which are beautifully complemented by glistening keyboards, quirky electronica and pulsating basslines.
Joined by fellow musical innovators, keyboardist Mark de Clive-Lowe and bass player Ross McHenry (Shaolin Afronauts), this live performance by one of New Zealand’s brightest young musicians is a must see.
