Tavo Carbone | NARCISSYPHUS Tour leg 1 | An Experimental Pop, Folk, Punk, Dub, Chamber Concert
NARCISSYPHUS is a return to 'straight-ahead' songwriting for Tavo and his most confident artistic work to date. The album traverses a broad spectrum of musical genres while retaining a fluid, distinct and honed dialect — mutating contemporary Pop with musical elements of Experimental, Folk, Punk, Dub, Chamber and even aspects of 'Hype-Hop' as a verbally engaging and architecturally elaborate body of produced work. The LP prominently features landscapes of cello played by longtime collaborator Adele Mori, plus piano by Allen Shawn for the Charles Ives cover Like a Sick Eagle. Containing 10 songs — such as All the People, Who's The Boss? and Douchebag Caveat — the album finds Tavo playing a multitude of instruments (guitar, bass, ukulele, piano, organs, mellotron, samplers, accordion and percussion that includes power drill, cheese grater, house keys and a dog leash), harking back to early 4-track machine recordings but unabashedly embracing the limitless palette of contemporary expression in a digital era. This 10 song L.P. explores the transitory themes of home, identity, family, colonization, and social disintegration via spiritual corrosion in modern-day corporate America.
Narcissyphus Tour leg 1 starts January 30 - March 23, solo — Continuing through the year on several legs with live musicians and video art projection. Tour shows range from sets of voice/acoustic guitar to karaoke renditions of LP donning a Jim-Henson-like bald eagle mask. Tour repertoire will span beyond new LP, featuring older songs such as "Figure in Movement", "Boxcar Serenade", "Crow Song", "Blue Boats on Black Lakes", "Leaf & Tree" and more. The nature of performance presentation (solo or bald eagle mask) will vary per show, depending on the venue and overall people-climate.
