Since forming in 2012 for an assignment at Newcastle Conservatorium, Vanishing Shapes have been writing a unique style folk music, taking influence from Klezmer, Celtic and Andean musical traditions meshed with modern art music and progressive rock practices. They released a debut album, Urcheon, in February 2015 and have been touring from Byron bay to Melbourne, performing with the likes of The Crooked Fiddle Band, Afenginn, The Dead Maggies, The Button Collective, Rhythm Hunters and The Squeezebox Trio. Live performances feature narrative driven songs that bounce between being playful, harrowing and ethereal producing moments for dancing, internal reflection and escaping to other dimensions. A concept EP exploring colonialisation and subjugation, entitled Tiny Planets, was released this year. These guys are at the forefront of gypsy-folk music check them out for what will be a high-energy and creative show. 6:30-8:30pm, $15, bar & kitchen open.
