The Perth Jazz Society & Tone List are proud to announce a new series for experimental jazz and improvised music, TuneNoiseTune. Launching at the Four5Nine Bar on February 17 with ambient-jazz supergroup Vanishing Island Group and the tangled outsider grooves of Jalan-Jalan, the doors are wide open to Perth’s new home for forward-thinking, original music informed by the rich tradition of jazz.

Headed up by avant-pop maverick Lyndon Blue, Vanishing Island Group assembles the talents of Jake Webb, Talya Valenti, Jet Kye Chong & Julia Wallace: vibraphone and piano ringing through an ambient soundworld of effects-laden guitar and percussion flourishes. Djuna Lee's Jalan-Jalan is a meeting of three keen minds in free jazz: Lee's precise bass playing grounds the angular and virtuosic interactions of saxophonist Simon Charles and drummer Ben Greene, who thread complex melodies and rhythms together effortlessly. Both groups speak to collaboration across genre and scene, bringing the spirit of jazz and improvised music to new places.

Across six concerts in 2022, TuneNoiseTune will bring together new and established musicians from the jazz, pop and experimental scenes in ways rarely heard. New commissions and new collaborations will bring fresh faces to the scene whilst also holding space for long-standing local groups to share excellent and ambitious music in intimate settings. Look forward to future concerts in April, July and throughout the rest of the year, with new projects from Julia Wallace, Alice Humphries and Thea Rossen set to debut alongside sets from Tom O'Halloran and Ghost Gum Reverb - and more to come!
