A bi-monthly series for improvised music and avant-garde jazz, TuneNoiseTune celebrates leading artists in exploratory music in Western Australia, and new collaborations between jazz and experimental musicians. It's co-curated by Perth Jazz Society and Tone List.

The eighth concert in the series is the occasion of the debut of the inaugural TuneNoiseTune commission, a new collaboration between Jeremy Segal, Naoko Uemoto and Josiah Padmanabham. Their project explores live instruments interacting with generative, poly temporal step-sequencing: complex, computer-generated rhythms tumbling around virtuosic guitar and saxophone melodics. This is an exciting new venture from mainstays of Boorloo’s popular music scene and up-and-comers to the space of experimental and improvised sound.

Also on the night will be a solo performance by the prolifically imaginative Lana Rothnie, whose music is influenced equally by jazz, neo-soul, noise and various forms of electronic music. Across projects as diverse as the explanation-defying Seacrest Gardens with Ian Apau Main Walker, where medieval harpsichords, brass ensembles, post-minimalist riffs, spoken word and brittle digital synthesis intermingle, and the complex and unpredictable pop of her own ensemble, Lana is one of this city’s most impressive experimentalists - and musicians in general. Amidst all the genre-trouble, it’s achingly beautiful, lyrical music.

Doors are at 7pm, with performances taking place at 7:30pm and 8:30pm.
