LUE SHADOWS / NEW DIRECTIONS FOR CHORDLESS QUARTET

Part of the Audible Edge Festival of Sound (ae.tonelist.com.au).

Tone List & PJS's beloved collaborative series TuneNoiseTune returns on June 30. This time we're back at the Four5Nine bar, for two sets of emotionally charged and sonically inventive music.

Julia Wallace’s haunting and atmospheric project Blue Shadows brings Jake Webb and Liam Downey on analogue and digital synthesizers together with cellist Miranda Murray-Yong and double bassist Lyndon Blue. Julia’s piano and vocoded vocals sit awash in the sonic shadows of fragile strings and textural electronics.

Montreal-based trumpeter Craig Pedersen leads new quartet New Directions for Chordless Quartet, featuring Saskia Willinge (flute), Djuna Lee (double bass) & Ben Greene (drums). With works that leap from ferocious full-bore intensity to spacious, droning dirges in a matter of moments, this is virtuosic music with a keen sense of atmosphere and texture.

TuneNoiseTune will happen bi-monthly throughout 2022.
