Ubirr is a contemporary jazz band made up of musicians who first came together whilst studying music in Sydney. The group is excited to be back & playing at the Vanguard, and have some newly crafted originals to showcase. They will also be playing a range of music from contemporary jazz, blues, Latin and funk. The band also enjoy the art of rearranging and experimenting with tunes and have been heavily influenced by contemporary Jazz artists such as Adrian Cunningham & Justin Kauflin, which will be evident in some of Ubirrs’ song arrangements throughout the night.

Ubirr is a 4 piece band with Mahesh Tandukar on Electric Guitar, Samantha Kennedy on piano, Daniel Wilkes on Bass and Efren Cruz on drums.

Octave Inc is the creation of saxophonist Michael Slater. An accomplished jazz saxophonist from Nashville, Tennessee, Slater’s sound has been described as a “sleazy saxophone ghost...taken straight from the Clarence Clemons songbook” (Mess+Noise). The quintet can be described as a genre bending wall of sound, swaying in the direction of jazz fusion.
