Jamaica Moana is a Sydney-based Artist, rapper, creative director & songwriter of Māori (Ngāpuhi/Tainui) and Samoan descent, who identifies as non-binary. Spiritually entwined with Hokianga and Waikato in the motherland of Aotearoa, whilst currently walking the land of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. As a multidisciplinary artist, they balance their professional career as a rapper & artist whilst being a leader & resident commentator of the Australian ballroom community.
In 2019, Jamaica had the honour of collaborating with Paul Mac & Jonny Seymour (who collectively become Stereogamous) with “Just Like This” released in 2019. They have since performed at many prestigious events including ANZ Fair Day Festival and opening for Junglepussy from NYC on her multi-city Australian tour. Recent achievements are supporting NGAIIRE for Sydney Festival 2021 & solo headlining show at Darlinghurst Theatre, creating and hosting The West Ball 2 and delivering a TED talk for TEDXSydney Nov 2021.
In 2022 Jamaica signed with management company Maximillian Brown and Pointer Recordings leading to their first single release in two years “CYA”. Punctuated with booming basslines and industrial percussion reminiscent of smoky, dimly-lit ballrooms, Jamaica takes command on ‘CYA’ with an unapologetic swagger and self-assured confidence. “'CYA' explains the message of me staying firm to my independence. It speaks on the experience of myself holding a leadership position to many people."
