Melbourne based queer artist Max Lawrence specialises in intimate, soulful songs that span alt-pop, indie electronic and ambient folk. Max's diverse style also explores influence from RnB and psych-rock, always with a unique flair, point of view and avant-pop edge. This genre-chameleon soars through anthemic choruses, skin-crawling textures and driving beats, all expressed through dynamic live performance.
Max’s songs are deeply personal, yet speak of fears and celebrations universal to the human experience.

Some notable influences would be the likes of Perfume Genius, Moses Sumney, Bjork, David Bowie, Gorillaz, James Blake, Jeff Buckley, Kate Bush and many more. His debut EP “Chlorophyll” is out now, with much more music on it's way, set to be released in 2020.

‘Chlorophyll’ explores the human process of healing from states of numbness, fear and trauma, and what it means to re-connect with the natural world and the people around you through self acceptance, love, and awe for all of life’s beautiful moments.

Max is currently recording his debut album 'Plastic God', an exploration of the complexity of fear and how it can dictate our lives, to be released in three chapters in 2020. This darker focus has driven the music to new worlds, and the album promises to be a distinct musical offering, pushing the envelope of pop to an existential, yet cathartic realm.
