Trumpeter, Vocalist, Bandleader

Wendell Brunious is a respected and seasoned veteran of the New Orleans jazz scene. In 1954, Wendell was born into a prominent New Orleans music family. His father, John Brunious, attended Julliard Conservatory for Music and was a famous trumpet and piano player. Nazimova Santiago Brunious was the sister of Lester and Burnell Santiago, two of the top class pianists in early New Orleans music. Her uncle Willie Santiago was one of the first men of jazz, being the guitarist with Buddy Bolden, one of the musicians credited with starting jazz.

At age 28, Wendell found himself as the youngest person ever to lead a Preservation Hall band. Since then, Wendell has toured Europe with Sammy Rimington and also toured Japan with Louis Nelson for a period of time. He has performed in videos with Wynton Marsalis and Danny Barker and is a regular musician and bandleader at Preservation Hall.

Wendell plays regularly at concerts and festivals in New Orleans and abroad.
